St. Vincent de Paul

The Resurrection of the Lord conference has been in existence since the spring of 1982.  Over these years food has been provided to those in poverty within our parish boundary.  We also offer clothing and other assistance for rental, transportation and utilities when money is available.  When our situation is in need, the Holy Spirit comes to our aid with volunteers and resources.  As of February 2025, we provide services to our community on Mondays and Thursdays from 9:00 to 12:00 pm. (Please note, the conference may be closed on religious and federal holidays that may fall on Mondy or Thursday.  Call 210-673-4038 to see if the office is open.)   We will respond to people in need when we receive a call from our Pastor seeking our intervention.

We are always acception food donations on weekends before and after mass.  A donation bin is located in the foyer of the church.

We also recycle our cardboard and materials that we cannot give out.  Our central Council and Goodwill then provide vouchers which we can use to purchase household items or clothes.

National Council's Mission Statement

"Inspired by Gospel values, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, a Catholic lay organization, leads women and men to join together to grow spiritually by offering person-to-person service to the needy and suffering in the tradition of its founder, Frederic Ozanam, and patron, Vincent de Paul. As a reflection of the whole family of God, members, who are known as Vincentians, are drawn from every ethnic and cultural background, age group, and economic level. Vincentians are united in an international society of charity by their spirit of poverty, humility and sharing, which is nourished by prayer and reflection, mutually supportive gatherings and adherence to a basic Rule. Organized locally, Vincentians witness God's love by embracing all works of charity and justice. The Society collaborates with other people of good will in relieving need and addressing its causes, making no distinction in those served, because in them Vincentians see the face of Christ."

HOW WE ARE GOVERNED

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is an international lay Catholic organization located in 147 countries with headquarters in Paris, France. The Society operates under a Rule originally developed by St. Vincent de Paul in the 1500’s and has since been modified to meet current needs. The central elements of the Society are the spiritual development of its members, forming community, and charitable works. Prayer and spiritual exercises in a community setting form the base to motivate members to carryout works of charity and justice.

The Society in the United States is centered in St. Louis where the original Conference was formed. All Society activities are led and governed by a nationally elected President and Board of Directors. The Society is further organized on a Diocese level, some 125 to date. Each diocese carries out the national programs. In all these Dioceses parish based Conferences are formed and clustered together in a District Council for mutual support, prayer, training and sharing.

The Society in the Archdiocese of San Antonio is the third oldest in the U.S., established in 1871. Presently 74 Conferences and 10 District Councils operate in the 16 counties of the Archdiocese.
